In this natural fermentation process, the lactic acid imparts a sour taste, which is where the name "sourdough" comes from.

IS SOURDOUGH BREAD HEALTHIER THAN NON-SOURDOUGH BREAD?

It is more likely to not have any unnecessary additives such as sugars, oils, and preservatives.
